Commissioned By Serious Boy

So in between jobs this Spring, we've somehow managed to find the time to create our own series of images. These are some ideas we've wanted to play with for a while now... and we just can't wait to see the results. Shot by the brilliant Jim Fenwick and with SFX make-up artist Alice Jarmey agreeing to get on the other side of the lens for us, we've had a cracking time. We're patiently having to wait to see the final images - hopefully by the end of the week. In the mean time, we thought we'd give a bit of a sneak-peak into some of the fun we've been having of late...

Alice had a Serious case of neck ache by the end of Day 1. The goosebumps were out in force too - Lisa's newly-made Medieval underwear looked great, but didn't do much to keep the wearer warm. It was rather authentic. Our model loved her new look and didn't feel the need to take any hair or make up off for post-shoot drinks afterwards - much to the delight of our favourite cocktail waitress at Happiness Forgets

Day 2 saw Alice on her day off from shooting a horror film. Fresh from making slugs and bile, we put her in front of a wind machine, while she balanced her elongated nose and tried not to fall asleep.

Day 3 was hat and hair day. After a week of Lisa teaching herself to make a hat (who needs millinery school?) and Becca sewing hundreds of silk roses, we had giant Edwardian hat. A few hours of filling Alice's hair with 'rats' as the old day ladies referred to them, we had created quite a head of hair. The weight on this hair combined with the hat was immense - and required a lot of propping up between shots.

Shot 4 had us plaiting 20 metres of hair (Serious hand-ache) and the creation of Crazy Alice. Luckily most of this came off before cocktails this time. Even for Shoreditch, this was quite a look.

Check back soon to see the final images!

Barbara Jones

We were working with apples and pears in the heart of East London last week. At lunchtime we were rewarded with a trip to the Whitechapel Gallery to see the beautiful Spazio di Luce by Giuseppe Penone's but also, more excitingly, an exhibition on Barbara Jones.

Black Eyes And Lemonade is a little celebration of the artist's musings and appreciation for visually-delightful manufactured items. It was fun and thought-provoking - we recommend it.

Wir Lieben Berlin

Serious Boy shipped out to Berlin recently. Four days with our German neighbours was more than enough to put springs in our steps. We adored the German city and made the most of every chance to explore - mostly the art and the food though to be honest. We loved that the art came to you regardless of whether you went looking for it. Every doorway and wall was a reclaimed canvas. The food provided a welcome end to long days. Our favourite discovery was the Jüdische Mädchenschule - an old school which has been turned into some fine eating establishments and art galleries. After strolling around the upstairs art rooms, we were rewarded with the culinary delights of Mogg and Melzer. Words can't even begin to describe how great this Jewish deli iss - but the fact we changed our plans on the last day to go back for a second time, probably speaks for itself. The Chicken Liver Brûlée was the ultimate winner both times, but everything on the menu was a total treat.

Our apartment Prenzlauer Berg was seriously cool - it definitely gave our London pads a run for their money. It was also brilliant for people-watching and deciding which Berlin Warehouse conversion we'd like to buy in the neighbourhood. The picture on the right shows our favourite!

Dessert time at Mogg and Melzer.

Sunshine on The Spree.

A trip to Berlin Zoological Garden provided an afternoon of fun. We particularly loved the cleaner who had created a sculpture from abandoned dummies and the lass who just wanted to fit in with her surroundings...

Berlin, we will see you again soon.

The Dancing Ballerina

Jakwob - Fade - Costume + Hair & Make Up

We kept ourselves busy in January by working on the music video for Jakwob's new single 'Fade' - directed by the talented Billy Boyd Cape.

After a day or two wandering around the textile markets in the snow, we'd found the enough of the right material to start creating our ballerina's dress - 20 metres worth to be precise.

With no dancers in sight to model the dress on, Little Serious Boy was roped in for a fitting...

Park Village Studio was our location for the day. As far as studios go, it was pretty luxurious. If only we could request pool tables and comfy sofas on every shoot.

We also had the pleasure of working with Special Effects artist Alice Jarmey for the first time. The liquid latex provided a nice messy challenge for the gang at the end of the day but Becca's still traumatised and missing her arm hair after the trial runs.
